  This imposing tree dominates the area near the Church porch and is often mistaken for a centuries-old veteran, but in fact it was only planted in the early 1900s. (Note: In Summer 2008 it was necessary to remove this tree because of disease. Removal has greatly opened-up this area, allowing sunshine to flood onto parts of the church that had long been in year-round shadow from this huge evergreen).
